RDA hosts the Equestrian Section of 5th National Disability League

Category: Events, News – rda – 4:37 pm

On Saturday 26th June 2010, RDA hosted the Equestrian Section of the 5th National Disability League in conjunction with SDSC.

The day started at 900am and featured various levels of dressage tests for the RDA riders, from walking with a leader to the fully independent walk and trot tests.

Our Emcee for the morning was RDA’s very own Honorary Secretary, Sally Munro, who entertained us all, as well as introducing each dressage section.

Throughout the event, refreshments were available and the morning ended in a spectacular drill ride to music. Gold, silver and bronze Medals were presented by RDA’s Honorary Treasurer Paul Murphy to the tired but triumphant winners of each section.

Well done to Sharon, Rosemary and Jessie for all of their hardwork as well as all the volunteers that gave up their time to help our on a Saturday morning.

Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras visits RDA.

Category: Events, News – rda – 8:26 am

Famous Polo Player Holds Charity Riding Event in Singapore

World renowned polo player and the face of Polo Ralph Lauren Fragrances Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Figueras was in town recently for the first time to present a $10,000 cheque to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) on behalf of Ralph Lauren Fragrances.

On top of that, he also gave a charity riding clinic to four young riders from the association. The four young riders – Max Tan, Gemma Foo, Marcus Lau & Wesley Tan also demonstrated their riding skills in a drill ride to music.

As the face of Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Figueras said that riding instills confidence in disabled children and gives them more courage to face the world. It also aids in blood circulation and improves their sense of balance, thus playing a vital role in supplementing their treatments.

Nicknamed “Nacho”, the Argentinean born Figueras is extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to share his passion for riding, as well as do his bit for charity.

The Riding for the Disabled Association is the only organization in Singapore to offer therapeutic riding lessons for the disabled. All maintenance and operation fees are raised via charity drives and funding.

RDA Race Day Recap!

Category: Events, News – admin – 7:47 pm

As part of the Singapore Turf Club’s efforts to support the community, the Club has lent Riding for the Disabled Association of Singapore (RDA) the platform on Saturday 23rd January 2010 raceday to raise much needed funds. The RDA has raised over $80,000 from the event through the sale of donation lunch tables. The Guest-of-Honour was the New Zealand High Commissioner, His Excellency, Mr Martin Harvey, who presented the trophies for the RDA Cup, the main race that afternoon.

RDA relies solely on donations and fundraising events such as this to support our unique form of therapeutic riding programmes for people with disabilites. This is the third year that we partnered the Singapore Turf Club in this effort and we hope that we will be able to continue this event annually as one of our main fundraisers. Our special thanks must also go to our sponsors. In addition to the RDA Cup, other racing highlights that afternoon will be the Janice O’Connor Stakes, Clarkson Asia Stakes and the Barclays Capital Gallop.

RDA at the Races began at 12.30pm, with a buffet lunch and the races commenced at 12.45pm. Afternoon Tea was served at 4.30pm and the final race is at 6.30pm.
